COLOMBO  MALAY CRICKET CLUB

Around 1100 Malay troops of the Dutch Colonial Army were absorbed into the Rifle Regiment formed by the British in 1827. The close association of the Malays with the British Military personnel saw them take to the game of Cricket like ducks to water. The Rifle Regiment comprised. Malay soldiers (from Java) but had British Officers.

President of Colombo Malay CC

izwan Badoordeen was elected as the new President of the Colombo Malay Cricket Club (CMCC) at their Annual General Meeting held at the ‘Padang’ in Slave Island on Sunday.

A stalwart of the oldest cricket club in the country which has a history of over 148 years, Badoordeen served for 10 years in the executive committee variously as Ground and Pavilion Secretary, Cricket Secretary, Hony General Secretary and Club Captain before being elected as President.
